80,000 smuggled cigarettes discovered at Vienna Airport

Due to an unusual X-ray image, the luggage of a 59-year-old woman was opened. The Nigerian woman was carrying 80,000 cigarettes in four bags, the Ministry of Finance reported on the discovery in mid-May. The woman had entered Austria from Lagos via Doha (Qatar).

The Austrian customs office confiscated the cigarettes and declared them forfeited. The woman is now facing financial criminal proceedings for smuggling and faces a fine of up to 38,000 euros.
