Relegation: Jahn coach Enochs: Hopes of promotion “grown” despite 2:2

The “important goal” by attacker Kother makes third division club Jahn Regensburg believe in a relegation victory against Wehen Wiesbaden.

Jahn coach Joe Enochs announced that his Regensburg team would put up a tough fight in the decisive second leg against SV Wehen Wiesbaden immediately after the first intensive relegation round. “It will be a hot game,” promised the American, looking ahead to the third division football team’s away game next Tuesday (8.30 p.m./Sat.1 and Sky) against the Hessians, who are hoping to avoid relegation to the second division.

After attacker Dominik Kother’s goal to make it 2-2 (1-0) in the 80th minute on Friday evening, his belief in promotion did not diminish, but rather “grew,” said Enochs: “When you play a first half like that and come back like that, it gives the team courage. We showed that we can keep up with Wehen Wiesbaden.”

Indeed: Over 90 minutes, the third division team was the better team in front of 13,378 spectators and deservedly led at half-time thanks to Noah Ganaus. But the visitors turned the game around after three substitutions by Robin Heußer and John Iredale before Kother put the finishing touches on the game: the 24-year-old hit the far corner with a full-on shot using his weaker left foot. “That felt incredibly good,” said Kother about the “important goal” and was ready to attack: “Now there’s a final in Wiesbaden.”

Döring is looking forward to returning

Interim coach Nils Döring will then be allowed to coach the home team from the sidelines again. “The situation in the stands was very unusual, I can imagine better things,” he said of his passive spectator role in Regensburg: “I’m looking forward to being back down there on Tuesday.” Döring expects another tough relegation battle, which could even go to penalties. “It will be a game on a knife edge,” Döring believes.
