The Catalans beat Olympique Lyon 2-0 in a very intense final at the Estadio de San Mames in Bilbao on Saturday and celebrated the third triumph in the club’s history. World footballer Aitana Bonmati (63′) and Alexia Putellas (95′) ensured that the Spanish women were victorious for the first time in their fifth direct duel in the “premier class”.
Previously, two of four defeats had also come in finals (1:4/2019 and 1:3/2022). Before 2023, when a 3:2 win against VfL Wolfsburg came from a 0:2 deficit in Eindhoven, Barca had also lifted the trophy in 2021. On the other side, Lucy Bronze blocked a Cascarino shot for a corner, after which Wendy Renard missed a header opportunity (39′). Barca’s best chance was missed by Caroline Graham Hansen, who missed the far corner after a nice individual move (45′).
