The fistball players from Union Haidlmair Schwingenschuh Nußbach will spend a twelfth season in Austria’s top division. The Kremstal team clearly defeated pursuers Wolkersdorf/Neusiedl 4:1 (11:8, 11:13, 11:7, 11:7, 13:11) in the penultimate round of the Bundesliga promotion play-offs, making them the only team to remain without losing a point.
“After this victory, a weight has been lifted from our shoulders,” said captain Katharina Lackinger: “Having to fight to stay in the league is a completely new experience for us. But with the comeback of main attacker Ines Salzberger and thanks to a solid team performance, we managed it.”
Salzberger was missing from Nussbach in the fall because of her maternity leave, but now she is back to providing offensive accents. This was also needed against the strong Weinviertel team. The Lower Austrians won the second set in overtime and gave Nussbach a match on equal terms until the end.
