He former Minister of Social Development (Mides), Martín Lemawill meditate after the internal elections of June 30 on the possibility of presenting himself as a candidate for mayor of Montevideo under the motto Republican Coalition in the 2025 departmental elections.
Last Monday at a press conference, the former nationalist leader confirmed that he will wait for the internal elections to make a decision on the matter. After resigning from Mides, Lema dedicated himself to an intense campaign in support of the presidential pre-candidacy of Alvaro Delgadofavorite to stay with the white intern, according to various surveys.
“I am absolutely convinced that after 35 years a change in Montevideo is absolutely viable, the people of Montevideo deserve an urgent change of management,” he said, referring to the successive departmental governments of the Broad Front (FA)in power in the capital since February 15, 1990, after the inauguration of the former president of the Republic and then mayor, Tabare Vazquez.
Lema stated that he is committed to “a political project in Montevideo, since he understands that the department presents problems in several areas. “We see it when the garbage problem cannot be solved after 35 years, when there are a number of transportation problems. and a number of potholes in the street,” said the politician of the National Party (PN).
In that sense, he indicated that the Municipality of Montevideo “is only efficient in collecting”, since it collected more than 300 million dollars between 2020 and 2023 from the Municipal General Rate.
“In 2023, there were more than 90 million dollars in collection for this fee, when instead of providing the corresponding compensation service, there have been more than half a million claims,” he assessed.
