After resigning from Mides, Lema dedicated himself to an intense campaign in support of the presidential pre-candidacy of Alvaro Delgadofavorite to stay with the white intern, according to various surveys.

“I am absolutely convinced that after 35 years a change in Montevideo is absolutely viable, the people of Montevideo deserve an urgent change of management,” he said, referring to the successive departmental governments of the Broad Front (FA)in power in the capital since February 15, 1990, after the inauguration of the former president of the Republic and then mayor, Tabare Vazquez.
