Vöcklabruck protests against funding cuts

Support for children whose mother tongue is not German

The municipal council of Vöcklabruck passed a resolution in which the city protests against the cuts in state funding for integration measures.

Since 2017, the municipality has been implementing measures in the areas of education, housing, coexistence and awareness-raising to make integration easier for people with a migration background. In 2021, Vöcklabruck was awarded the state’s Integration Prize for this.

But this year the state cut funding for the projects from 45,000 to 30,000 euros. This also affects the “Integration Assistants” project for children with other native languages in primary schools.

The resolution against the cuts was introduced in the municipal council by integration officer Petra Wimmer (Greens) and passed by a majority. The Freedom Party voted against it, and the ÖVP representatives abstained.
