The Justice ordered the cessation of the precautionary measures that applied against the deputy of the Frente Amplio (FA), Gustavo Olmosafter the criminal complaint for sexual and workplace harassment by her substitute legislator, Martina Casas.
The resolution adopted this Wednesday will take effect from June 6, when 180 days of the precautionary measures have passed, in which they have been in force since December 2023.
Diego CamanoOlmos’ lawyer, explained that Casás’ defense, Juan Raúl Willimanhad requested an extension of the precautionary measures until the end of the year, since the complaint continues in court.
For its part, Casás’s defense also acknowledged that Olmos complied with the precautionary measures since the restrictions came into effect, although they will define this week if they will appeal the Court’s decision.
The decision of the FA Ethics Court to await a court ruling
In March, the FA plenary session decided to wait for a court ruling after Casás’ complaint, defining that there were no “elements” to confirm that Olmos sexually and workplace harassed the complainant. In that sense, the FA Ethics Court prepared a preliminary report which concluded that there was insufficient evidence.
During that same month, the former mayor of cannelloni and presidential candidate for the FA, Yamandú Orsiassured the press that “perhaps” his political force “did not handle the issue prudently.”
“It is possible that we do not handle these issues with the necessary prudence. I would like us to have worked on them differently, they are very serious things,” the former Canarian leader assessed at that time.
“One has to be very cautious. Because of the love that they deserve in me, the best thing I can do is be cautious, remain silent and let things process,” he said.
However, he added that “if the organizations fail, they must be respected, and if it is necessary to review it, it is reviewed,” since “no case has been left under the rug” and that no one can tell them that “a complaint that was made in the FA, neither the president nor any organization kept it, in all cases there was a decision.”
