49% of Uruguayans approve of Lacalle Pou’s management

Less than a year after its completion, the administration of the President of the Republic has the sympathy of practically half of the country.

49% of the population of Uruguay approves the management of the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pouless than a year from the end of his mandate, according to the latest Consulting Teams survey.

The head of state has 32% disapproval until April, something that leaves him with a favorable balance of 17 points, more than 4 years after the start of his mandate. In turn, 18% of Uruguayans said that they “neither approve nor disapprove” of the current government, and 1% failed to answer.

In the second half of December 2023, the image of Lacalle Pou had fallen to 39% of the general approval, as a result of the derivations of the Marset case that ended with the resignation of several leaders of the Executive Brancheither. However, in February it recovered 10 points to 49%.

In the breakdown by region, the president has an approval rating of up to 54% in the inside of the country and a disapproval of 26%. In Montevideothe situation is a little less optimistic, but also favorable: 42% approval and 39% disapproval.

Among voters who define themselves “right”, the president’s approval rises to 80% against 9% disapproval. This is also high among voters of “center”since it brings together the support of 48% of those surveyed, against the 21% who expressed opposition.

Among the voters of “left” The situation is practically the opposite, since only 18% value the presidential administration positively, against 70% who disapprove.

How does Lacalla Pou rank historically?

Since the return of democracy, Lacalle Pou He is second in the historical ranking for a president at this point in his term, only behind the Frente Amplista Tabare Vazquezwho had 55% approval in April 2009. In his second term, Vázquez only received 26% of approval in the same period of the year in 2019.

The sympathy podium was also completed by the Frente Amplista Jose Mujicawho by April 2014 had 45% approval, against 34% disapproval.

At the other extreme, the presidents with the least approval at this point were the Colorado Julio María Sanguinetti (in his first presidency) with 24% approval; the nationalist Luis Alberto Lacalle with 20% approval; and the red Jorge Batllewho only added 10% of the sympathies, a government whose image was deeply affected by the financial insolvency crisis of 2002.
