The heavy rainfall in western Austria, Bavaria and the Inn catchment area is currently causing the water level along the Danube to rise. The Hydrographic Service of Upper Austria is expecting the river to rise in Linz for the first time on Saturday afternoon. Employees have therefore set up Phase 1 of the mobile flood protection system in Alturfahr-West as a precautionary measure.

The highest level of the first flood wave is expected on Sunday morning and the second flood wave on Monday morning with a water level of around 5.50 metres in Linz. Only at a water level of 6.80 metres would the Danube overflow its banks in the Alturfahr-West area and at the fairgrounds.
The responsible experts from the city’s building management and civil engineering department are in contact with weather services and the relevant authorities in the state of Upper Austria and are continuously monitoring the situation, the city of Linz informed.
