Rescue services, emergency medical helicopters, police and fire brigade were deployed in the municipality of Gschwandt (Gmunden district) on Saturday afternoon. At around 4:15 p.m., two cars collided head-on on the rain-soaked roadway of the B120 in the area of the so-called Brunner curve. The impact was so violent that one of the occupants was trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed by the fire brigade using hydraulic rescue equipment.

A 41-year-old woman from the Kirchdorf district, who was driving a car involved in an accident, sustained such serious injuries that she had to be taken to hospital by the Martin 3 emergency helicopter. Her 22-year-old daughter and a 48-year-old man from the Gmunden district, who were also in the car, were injured, as was the other driver, a 29-year-old German.
The Gschwandt Volunteer Fire Department took over the clean-up work, with 21 men and three vehicles on duty for a good two hours. Both vehicles suffered major damage. The B120 was closed in the area of the accident site for around one and a half hours, the police announced in the evening.
