The money will be paid out annually until 2030, and a total of 4.5 billion euros will be invested in childcare by then. The expansion is a milestone for “freedom of choice and security when planning everyday family life,” said Family Minister Susanne Raab (ÖVP).
83.72 million euros for Upper Austria
The 500 million euros will be adjusted for inflation and distributed to the federal states based on their population size. Most of the money will go to Vienna with 108.48 million euros, followed by Lower Austria with 94.5 million, Upper Austria with 83.72 million, Styria with 69.52 million and Tyrol with 42.38 million euros. 31.3 million euros will go to Carinthia, 31.22 million to Salzburg, 22.32 million to Vorarlberg and 16.58 million to Burgenland.

In addition to the Future Fund, a total of one billion euros is available through a 15a agreement between the federal and state governments for the kindergarten years 2022/23 to 2026/27. The funds invested up to 2030 are intended to expand childcare and improve quality. The number of places for children under three is to be increased and group size reduced.
Focus on important reforms
“For the first time, it is not just about continuing existing services, but our focus is on important reforms such as childcare,” says Finance Minister Magnus Brunner (ÖVP), speaking of a “paradigm shift”. The funds are tied to clear goals. On Monday, Nehammer and Raab heralded the start of the childcare offensive at a groundbreaking ceremony in Stetteldorf am Wagram (Korneuburg district) in Lower Austria.
