BVB’s deal with Rheinmetall continues to cause discussions. Dortmund fans made their displeasure clear at the Champions League final.

Fans of Borussia Dortmund protested against their club’s controversial deal with the arms company Rheinmetall with banners at the Champions League final on Saturday evening. “Rheinmetall: Using football to create a clean-cut image?” was one banner before the match against Real Madrid.

BVB’s deal with Rheinmetall had sparked debate in the days before the final. According to both sides, the three-year partnership includes the use of high-reach advertising space, marketing rights, and event and hospitality offers in the stadium and on the club’s premises.

Ricken: Rheinmetall deal for team “not an issue”

According to Dortmund’s future sporting director Lars Ricken, the deal was “not an issue at all” within the team. There were “zero distractions” before the Champions League final, Ricken said shortly before kick-off on ZDF, and he noticed that “at breakfast at the latest”.
