The president of the Montevideo Electoral Board, Mary López, confirmed that more than 500 voting sheets were presented in the capital for the internal elections, a figure higher than expected for the electoral event, which will take place on Sunday the 30th of this month.

“We continue studying the voting sheets. First the officials study the sheets, we are now meeting to see these latest ones and see if they are in a position to be published,” the leader told Subrayado.

However, he warned that due to the amount of mistakes “It will take a few more days to complete the work,” stating that “they are the usual ones,” in reference to the fact that sometimes the payroll, the consents and the sheet do not coincide. “If there is an error, we have to send it back to the group,” he highlighted about the process, which could take longer in the coming days.

A record number

López admitted that there was “a record number of slogans” and advised to bring the voting sheets on the day of the internal elections “because it is likely that they will not be found in the secret rooms”.

Of the almost 500 sheets, he specified that there are 129 firm ones at this moment, of which 45 are from the Colorado Party, 32 of National Party, 25 of Wide Front and 22 of Town meeting.

“We see that due to the number of slogans the scrutiny on election day, but apart from that I think it’s going to be like any internal election: very complex. I hope many people want to participate,” stated the president of the Montevideo Electoral Board.
