There were no injuries, police spokesman Johann Baumschlager confirmed a report by ORF Lower Austria when asked. A “large amount of rock” had slipped onto the road. It was expected that the road would be closed for several days. The slide occurred on the outskirts of the Aggsbach-Dorf area at around 12.30 p.m.
Situational awareness with drones
Lower Austria’s deputy state governor Stephan Pernkopf (ÖVP) also spoke of a massive rockfall on Monday evening after a briefing with helpers and authorities. “The emergency services and geologists are in the process of examining and securing the slope. The safety of the people is the top priority, after which the traffic routes must be cleared as quickly as possible,” stressed Pernkopf in a statement. A situation survey using drones is also planned for Tuesday (tomorrow).
