Eliminate standing water

With simple yet effective measures, the spread of the tiger mosquito can be contained and the risk of disease minimized,” says Health Councilor Michael Raml (FP). The following tips are aimed at the population:

  • Remove standing water: Regularly check and drain all water accumulations in and around the home, including flower pots, garden accessories and other containers.
  • Covering water containers: Water containers such as rain barrels should be covered with close-meshed nets or covers.
  • Use of mosquito nets and sprays: Attach mosquito nets to windows and doors. Use insect repellent when outside. Also make sure to protect yourself from mosquito bites when travelling. If feverish symptoms occur after returning from a trip, you should consult a doctor immediately.
  • Wear appropriate clothing: Wear long sleeves, long pants and light-colored clothing to reduce exposure to mosquitoes.

Event tip: The city of Linz will provide personal information at a special event on Tuesday, June 11th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Enter_Tainer.
