AMS boss: “Rohrbach is the only district with stable unemployment figures”

The estimated unemployment rate in the Rohrbach district was 1.7 percent as of May 31, making it just as low as in May last year.

“Rohrbach is the only district in the state where the unemployment rate has not increased compared to the previous year,” says AMS boss Doris Steiner happily. At the end of May, the unemployment rate in the whole of Upper Austria was 4.2 percent.

In absolute numbers, 441 people were unemployed in Rohrbach at the end of May, of which 210 were women and 231 were men. In total, there are 24,876 employed people in the district.

By age, 54 people under 25 were without a job – eleven fewer than the previous year – and 156 people over 50 (plus four people compared to the previous year).

In addition, 282 people are currently attending training or further education courses funded by the AMS in order to expand their skills and thus increase their chances on the job market. That is 57 more people than in May of the previous year.

In May 2024, 162 people registered as unemployed, but 221 people also started a job or ended unemployment for other reasons.

Numbers remain stable

“Contrary to the current general trend of rising unemployment in Austria and Upper Austria, the figures in the Rohrbach district remain largely stable. There is neither an increase in the number of unemployed people being released from work nor a decrease in the number of vacancies reported to the AMS by companies,” says Steiner.

Cooperation with companies

In order to continue to be able to offer job seekers many jobs and to suggest suitable people to companies, the employees of the AMS Rohrbach from the Service for Companies department made over 100 company visits during the AMS Business Tour alone (April/May) and offered AMS services. The AMS portfolio included various financial support offers, job exchanges and the new competency matching. Here the focus is on the skills, abilities and experience that people are actually looking for and no longer on the search for a specific job profile.

“The question is being asked as to what activities exactly this person must actually carry out and what skills a person must have or still learn. These skills will define a much more precise job advertisement than before,” says the AMS director.
