“I tried everything I could to dissuade her from her plan, but she was absolutely stubborn,” said gynecologist Andrea Marsili, who assisted with the birth. “It takes a little madness to implement a plan like that, but we are very happy that she has realized her dream,” said the doctor.
Birth rate in Italy has been declining for years
In 2018, an Italian woman gave birth to a girl in Rome at the age of 62. The girl, weighing 3.2 kilograms, was born by caesarean section. The mother, a nurse without a life partner, had undergone artificial insemination therapy in Albania. In 2016, a 61-year-old Italian woman gave birth to a boy in Caserta, southern Italy.
