A 75-year-old woman was cheated out of around 100,000 euros by a supposed internet lover, and an 81-year-old wanted to make quick money on trading platforms and lost almost 40,000 euros, police said on Thursday.
At the beginning of this year, the woman from Flachgau met an alleged Italian on a social media platform who posed as a project manager and deceived the 75-year-old into believing that he was in a romantic relationship with her. The woman from Salzburg subsequently repeatedly sent him bank codes, which were used to withdraw a total of around 100,000 euros from the woman’s account.
The 81-year-old, who also lives in Flachgau, was promised high profits on the Internet. He invested almost 40,000 euros on various trading platforms, but instead of the expected profit, he lost his money, which is why he filed a complaint.
