A hike on Hochlecken ended in hospital for a 62-year-old from the Vöcklabruck district on Saturday: The woman was with an Alpine Club group from the Kienklause towards the 1,691-meter-high summit and had chosen the route over the Gugelzipf. At about 9:50 a.m., at about the height of the 1,517-meter-high intermediate destination, a stone broke loose above the woman and hit her on the head.

A tour guide rushed to help and bandaged the bleeding laceration. As the climb continued, the injured woman complained of worsening headaches, which is why the tour guide made an emergency call. The Steinach/Weyregg mountain rescue service arrived. The 62-year-old was picked up by the emergency helicopter team in front of the Hochleckenhaus and taken to a hospital, police said on Saturday afternoon.
