A motion of no confidence passed jointly by an alliance of the VP, FP and Greens has set in motion an unprecedented process against Kirchdorf Mayor Vera Pramberger (SP). On Sunday, the population will decide in the voting booths whether the mayor, who is accused by her opponents of disregarding the law and shying away from responsibility, is still fit for the highest office in the town hall.

Before the unprecedented election, an old hand in local politics, who hardly anyone considers a party soldier, is now coming to Pramberger’s aid. Rudolf Mayr (SP), mayor of Klaus/Pyhrnbahn for more than twenty years, has now said that he had already missed “substantial misconduct” that could be attributed to Pramberger when justifying the motion of no confidence against her. The current situation in the municipality of Kirchdorf poses the risk that motions of no confidence could in future be used as a legitimate instrument “to chase undesirable competitors out of office”. He has come to know and appreciate Pramberger as an “extremely competent colleague”. He must now say this and make his position known: “As a matter of principle, I do not interfere in the affairs of other municipalities.”
