Car sharing is more widespread in Upper Austria than many people assume. This is shown by a recent VCÖ analysis. There are already offers in 50 municipalities and cities (see list below) – and the trend is increasing.

Car sharing can replace private cars and thus significantly reduce the resources and space used by car traffic, according to the transport club. Studies show that switching to such offers leads to more climate-friendly mobility behavior. The potential is certainly great, said the VCÖ on Thursday.

This city is leading the way
One of the international pioneer cities for car sharing is Bremen. In the northern German Hanseatic city with around 570,000 inhabitants, around 430 shared cars are available at 130 stations. For Bremen, a study found that one car sharing car replaces 16 private cars. Parking spaces are freed up and can be used for other purposes for climate change adaptation, such as planting trees or for wider sidewalks, according to the VCÖ.
