In Wels you can watch the games at Minoritenplatz, and for the Austrian games also at Stadtplatz.

Football fever will be raging in the country again from Friday. The opening match of the European Championship between host country Germany and Scotland will take place in Munich’s Allianz Arena. In Austria, football fans are eagerly awaiting June 17th. The national team will start the tournament at 9 p.m. and will face France, one of the toughest opponents in the European Championship. If you don’t want to cheer on the national team at home in your living room, but would like to experience the spectacle and the other games at the EURO together with other fans, there are many opportunities to do so in the region.

At the public viewing in catfishwhich is organized by the city marketing and the tourism association, all games will be broadcast live on the Minoritenplatz and, for the Austrian games, also on the Stadtplatz. It starts on Friday at 7.30 p.m. with a sticker exchange, where 1,200 stickers will be distributed free of charge, and a Gaberl competition, followed by the official opening and the performance of the Welser Huskies cheerleaders and a panel discussion with former professional footballer Rene Swete.

When our national team plays, the area is expanded and a second screen is set up on the town square. The games are analyzed in a panel of experts with current and former players and coaches on stage. A fun area is set up from Traungasse to Minoritenplatz, where you can win various prizes by shooting at the goal wall and playing football darts. As soon as Austria scores a goal, a brewery sponsors a 50-liter barrel of beer, which is given out while supplies last.

20 restaurateurs are taking part

In addition, more than 20 restaurateurs with a total of more than 3,000 seats will broadcast the European Football Championship and offer many promotions in their restaurants and beer gardens.

The stamp pass created for the European Championships offers an additional incentive to visit participating restaurants. For every drink consumed, visitors receive a stamp from the restaurant owner. If they collect ten stamps, they can pick up a surprise at the Wels Info on the town square and take part in the big European Championship competition.

In Grieskirchen SV Pöttinger invites you to the European Championship Village for public viewing in the middle of Grieskirchen’s town center at Pühringerplatz.
