Edward Ravasi finished twelfth, ahead of his teammate Jonas Rapp. On the second stage, the professional cyclists tried to get away from the main field from the start, attacking one after the other. But no rider was able to pull away decisively. The Austrians Tim Wafler (Tirol KTM Cycling Team) and Maximilian Schmidbauer (Team WSA KTM Graz) were also in the lead for a while, but were caught again after a few kilometers.
Yesterday’s winner Anton Stensby (Team Coop-Repsol) attacked 50 kilometers from the finish and was 2:10 minutes ahead of the peloton. The Norwegian secured the last sprint and mountain classification, earned time bonuses and was solo in the lead for 40 kilometers on the 4 loops around the stage finish in Aigen/Schlägl before the main field reacted and caught up with him 6 kilometers from the finish. Dockx as overall leader
In the overall standings, Belgian Aaron Dockx is now 8 seconds ahead of Adrien Maire and 12 seconds ahead of Toon Aerts. Fourth overall is Tibor del Grosso, winner of the prologue in Linz and 5th in the Int. Upper Austrian Insurance Junior Tour 2021. The best Austrian is Daniel Federspiel in 7th place, 23 seconds behind. Numerous top climbers from the Austrian teams such as Jonas Rapp from Hrinkow Advarics, Martin Messner from WSA KTM Graz or Riccardo Zoidl from Felt Felbermayr still have every chance of overall victory tomorrow on the climb up the Höss in Hinterstoder.
Third stage leads to the Höss
It is the last and hardest stage of this year’s Upper Austria Tour tomorrow, Sunday. With four mountain classifications, over 3000 meters of altitude and a ten-kilometer final climb with an average gradient of 8.4 percent, it remains exciting right up to the end. The race, which covers a total of 152.2 kilometers, starts at 11 a.m. in Asten and leads to Hinterstoder, with the mountain finish on the Höss.
