The fire broke out early Sunday morning at a stud farm in Bernesq, west of Bayeux, authorities said, as the newspaper Ouest France reported. A large building with several boxes, horses and equipment burned down to the ground.

A 21-year-old man who discovered the fire suffered burns to his hands. 70 horses that were in the complex died. The gendarmerie had no clues as to the cause of the fire, but does not suspect arson.
