At 9:20 a.m. on Saturday, the police received an emergency call: a suspicious man was said to be in the garden of a single-family home. It looked as if he wanted to break in. A 20-year-old was in the house and could observe everything – her parents were not at home.

When the police arrived, the young woman was standing in the garden. The burglar is said to have entered the house and is still there. He had noticed the arrival of the officers and jumped from the balcony on the first floor of the house. He then tried to flee on foot, but did not get far. The police immediately began to pursue him. “The 40-year-old was quickly caught and arrested,” Ulrike Handlbauer from the State Police Directorate told the OÖN.

Personal documents were forgeries
The man caught is a Czech. He had already committed several other crimes on the same day: He had ridden to the house on a mountain bike that had been stolen in Freistadt. “Before that, he had tried to pick the ignition lock of a motorcycle,” says Handlbauer. He was carrying a prohibited weapon, a telescopic baton. He also handed the officers fake documents.
The man is being charged with burglary, forgery and under the Weapons Act. He was taken to the Linz correctional facility on the orders of the public prosecutor.
