The first break-in at a car dealership in Linz on December 23, 2023 was just thwarted. The defendant had entered the country from the Czech Republic and cracked a safe with a welding machine. From there he took cash amounting to around 7,100 euros. However, he was caught by the manager and dropped the loot when he fell during his hasty escape.
Just a few days later, on New Year’s Eve, the man returned to Austria and broke into a car dealership in Neuhofen an der Krems. In addition to 2,000 euros in cash, he wanted to steal a bicycle worth 1,800 euros, but then stole a Lamborghini worth around 350,000 euros. The luxury car was eventually located in the Czech Republic and returned to its owner by the local authorities.
Three years absolutely
The court today handed down the maximum sentence of three years’ imprisonment to the defendant, as the vice president of the regional court, Walter Eichinger, told OÖN in response to a query. Mitigating factors included the 45-year-old’s comprehensive, remorseful confession and the fact that the objective damage was made good by returning the Lamborghini. In addition, the first incident was only an attempted break-in.
According to Eichinger, however, the situation was made more difficult by the fact that the defendant already had a relevant criminal record and was therefore quick to reoffend. The verdict is already final.
