Christian Rapperstorfer from Pettenbach has a lot of work to do before the national competition in Lower Austria in a month. As a trainer, he is preparing the best scythe mowers in Upper Austria for the final competition.
Participants from the region have already shown their grit at the state scythe mowing competition for rural youth in Tragwein (Freistadt district). In the professional boys’ competition, Gabriel Kirchweger from Molln won ahead of the two Aschachers Johannes and Matthias Großbichler. The trio has also qualified for the national final, as have the Pettenbach professional women Stefanie Hamminger (2nd) and Viktoria Lang (3rd), over-18 winner Thomas Reithuber from Steinbach am Ziehberg and over-11 winner Helene Reithuber from the Kirchdorf district.
“We have a pretty good chance at the national finals,” says Sophie Stadlmayr from the Rural Youth Association, “compared to other federal states, Upper Austria is traditionally very strong.”
There were also podium places for Simone Haslinger (2nd U18; Pettenbach), Anna Rapperstorfer (3rd Ü11; Bez. Kirchdorf), Jonas Großbichler (2nd U11; Bez. Steyr-Land) and Matthias Rapperstorfer (3rd U11; Bez. Kirchdorf).
