The man from the Freistadt district was driving his car on the L1415 from Schwertberg towards Tragwein at around 11:10 a.m. For unknown reasons, the man veered onto the left side of the road in a slight right-hand bend in the Haarland area and collided head-on with an oncoming small truck.
The 81-year-old was seriously injured and, after receiving initial treatment, was taken to the Kepler University Hospital in Linz.
