The MX-5 has long been a cult car. Whether with a fabric or fixed roof (RF): In its 35 years, the roadster has built up a loyal fan base that is now eagerly awaiting the revised fourth generation of the living legend.
On the outside, the LED daytime running lights, which have been integrated into the LED headlights, are striking. The blinking is now also done using LED lights. Also new to the 2024 edition is the Aero Grey Metallic exterior paint. And the beige fabric top can also be ordered for the special Kazari model. Mazda has now added new 16-inch wheels to the accessories range for the Prime Line, Exclusive Line and Kazari equipment lines. The Japanese also offer 17-inch aluminum wheels in a diamond-cut design for the better equipment.
New seat covers with more support
Inside, the fabric seat covers are made of a new material that ensures better grip during dynamic driving. The interior mirror is now frameless and the latest generation multimedia system can be accessed via an 8.8-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto can be connected wirelessly.
The RF’s three-part roof system opens and closes fully automatically, and the sound insulation is excellent thanks to the fixed roof.
Mazda is sending the new MX-5 onto the asphalt with an additional driving program: the Track Mode of the dynamic stability control (DSC) leaves control to the driver as much as possible and only intervenes when a dangerous driving situation arises. The Kinematic Posture Control System (KPC) also helps with this, braking the rear, inside wheel when cornering quickly. Even the entry-level model of the MX-5 has a navigation system, cruise control, lane departure warning and improved traffic sign recognition. The starting price starts at 34,250 euros.
The drives
Mazda installs the Skyactive engines G 132 (97 kW/132 hp) and G 184 (135 kW/184 hp) in both versions (fabric top and RF fixed roof). The 6-speed manual transmission is standard. The RF model with the 184 hp four-cylinder is also available with a six-speed automatic transmission.
