Government measures in favor of refugees
In recent months, the Ministry of Interior with him Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRREE) advanced in several measures, among them the approval of a decree to create the figure of “residence by roots”, which made it possible to resolve the immigration situation of some 20,000 foreign residents who were in the country irregularly.
The measure provides for three types of residence: due to work roots or self-employment (permanent); due to family roots (permanent); and by roots for training (temporary renewable).
According to the latest data, the Refugee Commission (CORE), the body in charge of processing refugee applications, has some 24,000 pending applications, mostly from citizens of Cuban origin.
It was precisely the CORE that approved last May a Abbreviated procedure for Venezuelans who request refuge in the country, based on compliance with a series of basic requirements, which will allow them to access legal status without the need for an interview.
