The residents of Altheim can breathe a sigh of relief: The search for a tobacconist who threatened a 60-year-old employee at gunpoint on May 24 and demanded cash was successful.

The suspect is a 35-year-old from the Ried im Innkreis district with a relevant criminal record. He was arrested by Cobra officers at his home address on Wednesday on the orders of the Ried public prosecutor’s office. He has made a full confession. The entire stolen goods are said to have been used to procure drugs. The toy gun used was confiscated. The accused is currently being held in Ried prison.
Reward of 1000 euros for information
On May 24th, shortly after 11 a.m., the man stormed into a tobacconist’s wearing a mask and armed with a gun. The 60-year-old employee suffered a shock. The perpetrator was able to flee in his partner’s car. A large-scale manhunt involving numerous patrols, special units, police dogs and the police helicopter was unsuccessful. A reward of 1,000 euros was offered for information.
