2 alpinists fell 200 meters to their deaths

The 65-year-old slipped across a snowfield in Sölden (Imst district) and collided with several boulders. The 68-year-old fell to his death in the Zillertal Alps (Schwaz district).

On Thursday morning, five members of the German Alpine Club were working in the area of the so-called Ramolhaus in the Ötztal. They wanted to cross a snowfield beneath the house, which is located at almost 3,000 meters above sea level. The 65-year-old German fell. He suffered fatal head injuries as a result of the collision with the boulders in his path. His companions immediately called the emergency services, and the emergency doctor on the emergency helicopter that was called could only confirm the man’s death.

At about the same time, three mountaineering friends were climbing the “Großer Möseler” in the Zillertal Alps. During the descent, the 68-year-old Austrian who was in front of them slipped on a snow-covered rock. His fall ended after he fell over a steep gully on the Schlegeis glacier. The 68-year-old’s companions also immediately alerted the rescue services and descended to the injured man. Despite the emergency doctor arriving by helicopter, any help came too late for him too.
