Yesterday afternoon, a doomsday mood briefly prevailed in Linz’s city center. At 4:40 p.m., it suddenly began to rain heavily and storm. Within a very short time, around 18 liters of rain per square meter fell, reported Geosphere Austria. Even Linz’s city highway was briefly under water, as could be seen in videos on social media. “In total, we had to respond to 42 storm operations yesterday,” says Philipp Schobermayr from the Linz professional fire department. “Most of them were in the city center.”
Because numerous cellars and apartments were flooded, the firefighters were busy dealing with the aftermath of the storm until the evening. With the exception of the Braunau district, where there were a few operations, the rest of Upper Austria was largely spared from the storm.
Lido Sounds had to be interrupted
The Lido Sounds also had to be interrupted for an hour due to heavy rain. The stage was briefly under water. Many visitors took refuge under the food stands. Bad luck for the two young Linz rappers from Coverrun: their performance was cancelled without replacement.
