Kefermarkt: Freight train loaded with cars hit car at railway crossing

The collision occurred shortly after 10 a.m. on a railway crossing secured with traffic lights. For reasons unknown, a vehicle collided with a freight train loaded with cars. The car was literally torn to pieces.

A firefighter from the Kefermarkt fire department who lives nearby witnessed the accident. He made an emergency call and provided first aid.

The fire departments of Kefermarkt, Tragwein, Lasberg and Freistadt are on duty. In addition to the fire departments, rescue services, the emergency doctor, the police and the ÖBB emergency coordinator are also on site. The railway crossing is currently (as of 12 noon) closed.

According to initial information, a man was injured in the accident. He was treated by emergency doctors and rescue services and taken to Freistadt Hospital for further treatment.

An accident had recently occurred at the same railway crossing. On June 8, a ten-year-old boy rode his bicycle onto the tracks despite the red light. The child was hit by a regional train and injured.
