The Tyrolean was unbeatable in his Olympic dress rehearsal in his favorite discipline in front of 3,000 home fans and won in rainy conditions ahead of the German Alexander Megos and the Briton Toby Roberts. For the 33-year-old, it was the last competition before the Olympic Games in Paris.

Schubert had already finished the semi-finals in first place. The local hero therefore entered the final of the best eight as the last one and climbed inexorably past the best marks of the competition. “It’s something special because I didn’t get into the route well. It was such a fight from the halfway point onwards. That would never have been possible without such an audience behind me,” Schubert explained in an ORF interview.
The women’s competition was then decided, with ÖKV aces Jessica Pilz and Mattea Pötzi in the final. Pilz finished fifth in the bouldering competition on Thursday.
