Daniel Salinas is running for president of the College of Physicians and is distancing himself from the government

Former Minister of Health, Daniel Salinas, announced that he will be a candidate for the opposition to preside over the College of Physicians of the Uruguay and he distanced himself from the possibility of being part of the government.

However, Salinas had been taken into account by the now presidential candidate for the National Party, Alvaro Delgado, to be part of the formula as vice president. He had even conducted surveys on the impact that the former Minister of Health would have in the general elections in October, due to his great acceptance for his work during the pandemic in the country in 2020.

With this, the former Minister of Health surprised the political arena by confirming through the social networks of the Juntos group that he will run for president of the College of Physicians as part of the opposition.

Juntos is a movement of doctors “that aims to dignify the profession by improving working conditions and providing better care to Uruguayans,” as confirmed on their social networks.

The differences between Manini Ríos and Salinas seem to be significant, to the point that Delgado has considered him as a vice presidential candidate and not his own political party.

According to data from the Electoral Courtthe political force received a total of 17,242 votes compared to the 46,848 obtained in 2019 when it first ran, which represents a difference of 29,645 votes.

So, Town meeting has yet to define its presidential formula amid low engagement from its political supporters. The most voted sector was Loyalty and Unity Column, which is led by Guido Manini Rios and his wife, Irene Moreira, together with Domenech.

This sector, associated with National and Christian Meeting were positioned as the most voted with a total of 48.4%. Meanwhile, in second place was Espacio de los Pueblos Libres, led by Eduardo Radaelli, with 23%.
