Hiker fell 80 metres above snowfield in Vorarlberg

The hiker had slipped down a steep snowfield in the municipality of Gargellen (Bludenz district) and came to rest on a scree field after about 80 meters, Vorarlberg police reported. The woman had been hiking with friends from Gargellen towards Sarotlajoch at around 1 p.m.

The 65-year-old fell through no fault of her own while crossing the old snowfield. Her companions alerted the rescue services, the seriously injured woman was rescued by emergency helicopter and flown to Feldkirch State Hospital.
