A Democratic sector asks Biden to withdraw his candidacy
Biden’s lackluster performance in the first presidential debate of 2024 has seemingly divided Democrats. “The View” co-host Sara Hainesproclaimed the morning after the debate that Biden needed to get out of the way if Democrats want to prevent Trump from becoming president again.
“I believe President Biden should resign and be replaced”“If we want to defeat Donald Trump in November, then I absolutely believe that … they have to act quickly, and I implore those closest to the president to have the very difficult conversations that they’re going to have to have and not just because of the political ramifications, but because of humanity, his integrity and his legacy. All of that is at stake right now.”
Alyssa Farah GriffinHaines’ co-host on “The View” agreed, saying, “Donald Trump is a threat to our democracy. We need someone who can defeat him… [Joe] He needs to put his country before his own ambition and he needs to step aside and pass the baton. Mark my words: if it’s Trump vs. Biden, it’s going to be Trump.”.
While reports have emerged that Biden is now considering withdrawing as the Democratic nominee amid criticism of his debate performance, White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierrehas assured the press that this is not the case.
“Absolutely not”Jean-Pierre said. “And I think you heard that directly from the campaign as well.”
