Danger of severe weather in Upper Austria: Heavy rain, storms and hail possible

After a midsummer day with maximum temperatures above 30 degrees, the weather will change in the evening. From 6 p.m., severe thunderstorms may pass through the Innviertel and the Salzkammergut from Bavaria, according to Geosphere Austria. There may also be thunderstorms in other parts of the country. There is a risk of heavy rain and local hail. Weather services are also warning of heavy gusts of wind, which could reach hurricane force in some places.

How to behave in severe storms:

• Keep your distance from torrents, rivers and flooded areas!
• Observe the local weather development and be aware of the risk of lightning; expect rapid developments and changes in the thunderstorm track!
• Secure movable objects outdoors (such as party tents, trampolines or garden furniture) in good time!
• Take down parasols and retract awnings!
• Plan for delays in road, rail and air traffic!
• Close windows, doors and garage doors as well as skylights and roof lights!
• Expect temporary power outages!
• Seek shelter outdoors in good time!
• Pay attention to thunderstorm and storm warnings at lakes!
• Land sport aircraft early and reach ports quickly with boats!
• Stop crane work early if there is imminent danger!
• Follow the instructions of the relevant authorities!

The weather on Sunday

On Sunday, clouds will predominate from early in the morning. During the course of the day, heavy rain showers will come from the southwest, and there may also be thunderstorms. Between the showers, the clouds may temporarily clear up more often from midday, before it rains again in the evening, sometimes heavily. Early temperatures will be between 14 and 18 degrees, with highs reaching 18 to 22 degrees.
