Formula 1: Hamilton won thrilling Silverstone GP ahead of Verstappen

Lewis Hamilton

The Mercedes star won an exciting and partly wet British Grand Prix on Sunday, narrowly ahead of Max Verstappen in the Red Bull and McLaren driver Lando Norris. This made Hamilton the first driver ever to triumph on a track for the ninth time.

“It means a lot to get this win,” said Hamilton with a broken voice on the pit radio. “We will prevail, we never give up,” added Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff with satisfaction. Hamilton thus extended his record with his 104th GP victory, the first time since Saudi Arabia in December 2021 or 57 races that the 39-year-old Briton was back on the top podium. Spielberg winner and pole-setter George Russell, however, had to park his “Silver Arrow” in the pits just after half the race due to a possible problem in the cooling circuit, lying in fourth place.
