Music, choir singing, painting, circus tricks, magic, dance, pantomime: the “PuK Award” knows no genre boundaries. For the competition, the “Junges Theater” association, with the support of the city of Wels and the state of Upper Austria, is looking for young artistic talents who want to show off their skills. A selection of the submissions can be seen on October 26th at the “Final Show” in the Greif City Theater in Wels. The audience then chooses the winner.
The target group for the submissions are young adults. “We haven’t specified that in more detail – we want to open up and not exclude,” explains Florian Entenfellner. The dancer and choreographer will evaluate the submissions together with his colleagues from the PuK team – Dominik Samassa, Ina Schuller and Gabriele-Kirsten Lutz – and select ten contributions for the final performance.
The competition is part of the “Education and Art” concept: In cooperation with the city, “Young Theater” has set itself the goal of conveying culture and opening up artistic institutions in Wels to the general public and especially to young people. “The cultural scene should not be a closed bubble. The public stages belong to everyone and should be open to everyone,” Entenfellner explains the approach of the project, which has been running since 2023.
Artists can submit their contributions until the end of the month – with a short project description, optionally with a video or picture. “The concept does not have to be finished yet,” says Entenfellner: “We will select the contributions for the final in September. After that, we will support the artists, if necessary, in dramaturgically staging their contribution.”
The audience decides
The artist says he hopes for a wide range of submissions: “The interesting thing is that everyone can take part – I’m excited to see what creative approaches we’ll see.”
Who will ultimately take home the PuK Award will be decided democratically: the audience in the city theater will vote for the winner on October 26th.
Submissions are possible until July 31. All information and forms are available online at pädagogikundkunst.at
