The 38-year-old from the Kirchdorf district was busy doing commercial woodwork in a forest in the municipality of Klaus around midday. As he was cutting through the trunk of a beech tree, the tree started to slide and hit the worker.
A work colleague brought the seriously injured man down to the valley in his car. After receiving first aid from the rescue team, the 38-year-old was taken to the Pyhrn-Eisenwurzen Hospital in Steyr.
