When he calls the hotline in the call center, he is sent in circles. “In general, my expectations of public IT solutions are not the highest, but this makes me shake my head,” says Latzelsperger.
The website handwerkwerbonus.gv.at confirms the delays in submitting applications. “There are currently technical problems due to the high demand,” it says. And continues: “Please try again at a later time. We apologize!”
The Federal Accounting Agency (BHAG) is responsible for processing the craftsman bonus on behalf of the Ministry of Labor and Economic Affairs. In response to a request from the OÖN, the agency said: “Yes, there are problems because the demand is so high.” However, they are already working intensively with the Federal Computing Center on a solution in order to get the technical requirements “back under control” in the course of the day. “Some applications go through, but others don’t,” says a BHAG employee.
Up to 2000 euros refunded
As reported, the craftsman bonus in Austria is part of the government’s 2.2 billion euro housing package. It is intended to be a financial incentive for craftsmen’s services in the private residential and living sector. The bonus was already available from 2014 to 2017. 300 million euros are available for 2024 and 2025.
Funding is available for the period from March 1, 2024 (retroactively) to December 31, 2025. 20 percent of labor costs up to a funding amount of 2,000 euros (2025: 1,500 euros) will be reimbursed.
