The men searched the building for valuables and then fled with a small amount of cash, the Styrian State Police Directorate said on Tuesday. The victim, who was locked in the kitchen, was eventually able to escape to a neighbor through a window.
Surprised in sleep
The home invasion had already been carried out in the late evening hours of July 10th, but the victim was only now able to be questioned, according to the police. The intruders are believed to have suddenly woken the elderly woman from her sleep in her house in Hofstätten an der Raab (Weiz district) at around 11:15 p.m. and taken her by force into the kitchen. They then searched the house. In the end, they locked the woman in the kitchen and made off.
Fled to neighbors
The victim then climbed out of the window and ran to neighbors, who eventually called the police. The 86-year-old was slightly injured. The police are now looking for witnesses or information. These can be reported to the Styrian State Office of Criminal Investigation on 059133/60-3333. The perpetrators are said to have been masked and demanded cash with a foreign accent.
