Brutal robbery to be tried in September

The suspects are in custody at Ried Prison and face long prison sentences. (Streif)

A year ago yesterday, the family of the successful entrepreneur and former state councillor Josef Fill was attacked in their house in Gurten by several brutal assailants. Josef Fill, who was gagged by the robbers just like his wife, suffered a broken metacarpal bone.

Through intensive and partly international investigations, the police were able to track down a trio. The men have been in custody in Ried Prison since then. The presumption of innocence applies. A 44-year-old North Macedonian and a 43-year-old German were charged as the main perpetrators at the end of April. The duo already have 20 previous convictions between them. There is also likely to be an ongoing investigation against the North Macedonian in Germany. There he is also accused of aggravated robbery.

The third defendant, a 29-year-old from Innviertel, was charged as an intended perpetrator, i.e. as a “tipster and initiator” of the attack on the house. According to OÖN information, the jury trial is scheduled for September 5. If convicted, the defendants face between five and 15 years in prison.

Accomplice also a drug lord?

The alleged perpetrator of the robbery, who also lived in Switzerland for a time, is also said to have played a key role in a Ried drug ring. Several men are accused of large-scale drug trafficking, and the first convictions have already been made, the OÖN has reported.

In total, more than 50 kilograms of cannabis and five kilograms of cocaine are said to have been imported from Switzerland into Austria, and several shell companies are said to have been set up to record the assets. The trial will continue soon.
