Starting in autumn, apprentices will be trained in nursing at Seniorium Grein

As one of the first nursing home operators in Upper Austria, the Social Welfare Association (SHV) Perg is taking up the opportunity to train nursing assistants (PFA) for this new apprenticeship profession.

“In recent years, we have successfully implemented many projects to recruit new nursing staff,” says SHV chairman Werner Kreisl. 31 specialist social workers for work with the elderly are currently being trained at the Baumgartenberg nursing school. In addition, 20 nursing professionals from the Philippines support the work in the homes. However, since the need for nursing care in the district will increase sharply in the coming years (by 54 percent from 2020 to 2040), further personnel measures are essential.

In January, the SHV Perg therefore appointed Michaela Rafetseder as head of training for the SHV homes in the district. She is currently supervising nursing interns in the SHV homes and is making sure that they have good conditions during their training. At the same time, she is also preparing the start of the first three apprenticeships for “nursing assistants”. The apprenticeship training is due to begin in the autumn at the Seniorium Grein.

Interested young people who have completed the ninth grade can register at any time via the social welfare association’s homepage. “We want to attract young people as a new target group for the nursing profession and support them as best as possible until they take their final apprenticeship exam,” says Kreisl.

At the same time, we are also looking for qualified health and nursing staff with the additional qualification of “practical instruction” for apprentice training. They will be released for at least 20 hours per week in order to take over the apprentice training at Seniorium Grein together with Michaela Rafetseder.
