At around 8:30 p.m., the family from Niederthalheim set off from the port of Schörfling to watch the sunset on the lake with their ten-year-old son. But while they were still in the port area, they discovered a lifeless body in the water. The father immediately jumped into Lake Attersee, pulled the man out and brought him to a jetty.

There, the 37-year-old and other bathers provided first aid while the Red Cross was alerted. The emergency doctor tried to resuscitate the 73-year-old, but without success. Since the man was alone at Lake Attersee, it is unclear exactly when the bathing accident happened. The police have ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
