Germany provides Ukraine with 4 million euros in emergency aid

The children’s hospital lies in ruins.

Financial support is available, among other things, for the damaged children’s hospital. “We are giving four million very quickly as immediate emergency aid, and then we will provide ten million for the reconstruction of the hospital,” German Ambassador Martin Jäger told journalists at an on-site visit to the damaged Ochmatdyt children’s hospital.

Ten million euros already announced

The Ministry of Development had already announced ten million euros for the reconstruction of the hospital in the middle of the week. According to Jäger, the emergency aid will be used for medicines and other urgently needed items, including in the hospitals that have taken in patients from the damaged children’s hospital. “When we think of Ochmatdyt, we must also think of the people who live in the areas near the front and who also need medical care, because these people are under fire every day,” said the ambassador.

Volodymyr Zhovnir, the general director of the children’s hospital, estimated that the damage to medical equipment alone caused by the missile strike was equivalent to almost nine million euros. “We want to cover this need through sponsors who are willing to buy this equipment, in the quality and quantity that the hospital needs,” he said. The other funds provided will be used to repair the damage.

Previously, President Zelensky’s government was instructed to provide the equivalent of just over nine million euros. According to media reports, a further 17 million euros were raised through donation campaigns.

A week and a half earlier, the Ukrainian capital of Kiev was attacked by the Russian military with rockets. A rocket hit the grounds of the country’s largest children’s hospital. A doctor and a hospital visitor were killed, dozens of people, including children, were injured. In addition, several buildings were damaged. The attack was strongly condemned internationally. Moscow rejected the accusations.

Accelerated delivery of F-16 fighter jets

Meanwhile, according to the Ukrainian president, Poland agreed to speed up the delivery of F-16 fighter jets. Zelenskyy announced on the online platform X that this was the result of his talks with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. “Today we have a positive decision from the Polish government on a specific issue that will allow Ukraine to receive the F-16 jets sooner,” Zelenskyy explained. He did not provide any further details.
