A family made a shocking discovery on Thursday evening during a boat trip on Lake Attersee: When the parents and their ten-year-old son set off from the harbor in Schörfling (Vöcklabruck district) in their sailing boat shortly after 8:30 p.m., they noticed a lifeless body floating in the water not far from the shore. The father immediately jumped into the lake, pulled the man out of the water and pulled him onto a jetty.

Car discovered and identified
There, the 37-year-old from Niederthalheim provided first aid together with other bathers. At the same time, rescue services and emergency doctors were alerted. The emergency call was received at 8.40 p.m., a Red Cross spokesperson said. But even the emergency services were unable to save the man’s life. All attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful. The emergency doctor could only confirm death. The body was identified: it was that of a 73-year-old man from nearby Regau. He had driven alone in his car to Schörfling, a good twelve kilometers away. He had parked his car at the harbor there, probably to go swimming in Lake Attersee. The car was identified as belonging to the dead man, according to the police. Nothing was known yesterday about the circumstances that led to the 73-year-old’s death. It is just as possible that he drowned as it is that he suffered an internal emergency while swimming, such as a heart attack.
