Which companies invested the most in machinery in the second quarter?

The Chamber of Industries published its quarterly monitoring, which recorded a 13% increase, although it decreased by 26% year-on-year.

Investments in industrial machinery During the second quarter of the year they perceived a year-on-year drop of 26%, although they rose 13% compared to the first three months of the year, reported the Chamber of Industries of Uruguay (CIU).

The Chamber of Industries of Uruguay (CIU) published its quarterly Industrial Monitor for April to May where they determined that the Machinery and Equipment Investment Index (IMEQ) of the industry where a 16.8% year-on-year drop was seen in the last mobile year ending in June 2024.

The sector that increased the most in machinery investment was that of Food, Beverages and Tobacco with 50.4% in the second half of the year, compared to the previous one. Meanwhile, the IMEQ of the industry excluding Food, Beverages and Tobacco fell 28.7% quarterly.

Investment in machinery in the second quarter fell by 26% compared to the same three months in 2023 and rose by 13% compared to the first quarter, excluding seasonal and irregular effects.

Featured companies

Among the investments in machinery in the country, five companies that import capital goods stood out, allocating a total of 9 million dollars.

The first in the ranking is Lumin which invested a total of 2.8 million dollars in machinery for working wood, cork or similar materials. This is followed by Montevideo Soft Drinks SRL with a total of 2.5 million dollars invested in machinery for working with plastic.

In third place is one of the largest wood sawing companies in Uruguay, Urufor, with an investment of around 1.6 million dollars for machinery for drying wood. This is followed by Amberplan With 1.1 million dollars invested in machinery and equipment for the production of paper and cardboard, Amberplan is among the industrial companies that imported the most capital goods in the second quarter of 2024 on its own behalf.

The fifth place is occupied by Kluntex with an investment of 1 million dollars during the second half of the year for machinery intended for sawing. The company is a sawmill that was inaugurated at the beginning of 2024, in the department of Rivera and is dedicated to the processing of pine wood, destined for the international market.
